High hills surround the town of Barranca in Guatemala's San Marcos Department. In those hills live one hundred families on farms passed down from parent to child.
They are not rich people so when coffee rust hit them in 2012 they were unprepared and many lost what little they had. Fighting back with organic fungicides and a stricter pruning schedule the farms of Barranca bounced back. This fantastic coffee washed in mountain streams and dried on their very own patios is their response and we love it. It's great to have Guatemalan back in the house. Been too long. San Marcos La Barranca is a big, zesty dark with a luxurious body and is perfect as filter/stove top/ cafetiere/ Aeropress/ you name it. I'll be drinking it tomorrow morning and it's as good a reason as any to get out of bed.
Lovely traditional. Medium dark ( on the darker side). Floral and orange notes. Well balanced.
