Rwanda is blessed with ideal coffee growing conditions that include high altitude, regular rainfall, volcanic soil with good organic structure and abundance of Bourbon.

This coffee, also called 'Cyiya' serves as an example of qualities a coffee produced by small holders can achieve. The village of Cyiya is high up in the mountains and often accessible only by foot. the farmers walk hours from the village to Muduro washing station, where they deploy strict quality controls and ensure that this coffee keeps its high potential for quality. In exchange, farmers receive exceptional prices. Most have very small plots of land and on average only 200 - 300 trees. They grow food crops and have some small livestock for subsistence, but for most part coffee is their only source of income. The additional quality bonus can make all the difference.

We have always enjoyed our Rwandans. They are extremely easy to like. Traditional but with interesting little twists in top notes.

Tasting Notes: Chocolate, plum, honey, floral, smooth, well balanced, long finish.
